Description
Nanhui wind farm integration project is the first VSC HVDC project in Asia. It is also the first order for the innovative HVDC Flexible technology developed by C-EPRI for VSC HVDC transmission. It connects the Nanhui wind farm to the Shanghai main grid via DC cable, rated at 18MW/ ± 30kV.
C-EPRI is contracted for a turnkey supply of the whole scheme, including the design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, installation and commissioning of the two converter stations and DC cables.
C-EPRI’s HVDC Flexible is based on a voltage source converter (VSC). It makes use of insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) for power conversion between AC and DC. In comparison to the classic HVDC, the most outstanding features of HVDC Flexible are its high controllability and flexibility. HVDC Flexible provides full power control, both active and reactive and offers an effective solution for renewable integration.
Nanhui wind farm integration project was commissioned in July 2011. Since its operation, it significantly improves the wind farm’s fault ride-through performance, reduces the impact of power system disturbances and enhances the stability and reliability of the connected grid.
